Professor Andreas Yiacoumettis was born in Famagusta-Cyprus in 1948. He graduated from Athens University Medical School in 1971 (MD) and he was trained in General and Plastic Reconstructive - Aesthetic Surgery in the UK. He returned to Athens in 1982 where he has been practicing ever since. Prof. Yiacoumettis is a Doctorate of the University of Athens Medical School (PhD) and also Diplomate of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons and Physicians of Edinburgh and Glasgow and of the Society of Apothecaries of London. He is a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons and of the Royal Society of Medicine. He is a full member of the Hellenic Surgical Society and many other Medical Societies. He is also an Honorary Member or Professor of several European National Societies and Universities. He has served as President of the Hellenic Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery from 1992 – 1994 and as President of the Hellenic Society for the Study of Melanoma (2004-2008) and has also served as the vice President of the Society for Aesthetic Surgical Lasers. He was the Director of the Department of Plastic Surgery at the Oncology Hospital of Athens from 1987 to 2007 which is a Centre for full training in Plastic Surgery. Forty Plastic Surgeons have qualified from this department during his directorship.
He has been the Official Delegate of Greece to various International Organizations. He was the Secretary General of UEMS (Plastic Surgery Section of the ΕU and of the European Board (EBOPRAS) and its President for 2006-2008. He was also elected as the first Secretary of ESPRAS ExCo. He was the Professor of Plastic Surgery at the Technological University of Athens from 1986 to 2006 and he is Professor of Plastic Surgery at the Democritus University of Thrace. He is an examiner for the European Fellowship Diploma of EBOPRAS. Prof. Yiacoumettis has been the President of the Section of Plastic Surgery at the UEMS (Union of European Medical Specialists) of the EU in Brussels for the period 2009-2017. He also served on the ExCo IPRAS (International Confederation of PRAS as a Parliamentarian and subsequently as deputy General Secretary (2011-2016) He is the current President of ESPRAS.
He is the author of six books related to Plastic Surgery and of over 100 papers published in the International and Hellenic Medical Journals. He served as the Editor in Chief of the official journal of the Greek Society: HELLENIC PLASTIC SURGERY. Finally, it must be mentioned that he has an extensive experience in congress organizing and he was the President of the ESPRAS Appointed National Congress (Athens) in 2003 and the President of the 11th European Congress held in Rhodes (Greece) in 2009.
